Curtain Fig Tree Road, is the only access road to the iconic ‘Curtain Fig Tree’. The road is accessed by tourist and local farmers. The area is surrounded by ‘Wet Tropics’ World Heritage, National Parks, rainforest and farm land. The road closure will have a significant impact on the local residents, tourist, council and general public. The EMP, QMP, WH&SMP and TMP all play important factors in the project. Road signs (VMS boards) were erected months before the project starting to ensure the public had plenty of time to understand alternative routes to the iconic ‘Fig Tree’ and being able to access other roads to gain access to towns. The Environmental Management Plan, is significant to ensure the flora, fauna, river stream, rainforest and farming are all protected during the construction. Sediment control is paramount.
The guard rails needed modifications as the embankment was steeper than the plans provided. The issue was managed well and all parties were satisfied with the outcome through respectable communication.
